Chris Brown and Tyga yesterday released their highly anticipated collaborative album, Fan of a Fan: The Album, the follow up to their critically acclaimed mixtape of the same name in 2010. The album release comes midway through their highly successful “Between The Sheets Tour” with Trey Songz.
With Fan of a Fan: The Album the duo cook up 16 massive anthems (if you purchase the deluxe edition), and with all of the hits between the two of them, that’s saying a lot. The 1990s inspired cover art represents the theme of the album with the emphasis being on having fun and purposely throwing it back to the feeling of music in the 90’s.
Breezy carries smooth, slick, and sexy hooks and has better bars than most rappers, while Tyga’s rapping is bragadocious, with clever lines and infectious charisma. The nod to the 90s doesn’t stop there, as Tyga includes double-time flows that recall Eminem and Dr. Dre’s 1999 Grammy-winning single “Forgot About Dre”. Pusha T also recalls that track, as well as Jay Z’s final couplets on the remix of his 1999 hit “Big Pimpin’,” too.
The album features guest appearances by 50 Cent, Boosie Badazz, Fat Trel, Pusha T, ScHoolboy Q, T.I., Ty Dolla $ign and Wale, while production comes courtesy of DJ Mustard, Drumma Boy, Jess Jackson, P-Lo and more. This review may seem short in comparison to my others but there isn’t much more to say except the album is fun-filled and is one album that everyone should have on their phones/ipods.
Songs to Look Out For: Remember Me, Better, D.G.I.F.U (ft Pusha T), Real One (ft Boosie Badazz), It’s Yo Shit (ft Wale)
